Northumberland County Show 2013

The spacious, well laid out new showground in the parkland of Bywell Hall allowed the alpacas section a much larger marquee in a central location with easy access and parking. The ring was superb with a large floral display lent by one of our sponsors, Lease a Leaf of Sandhoe. Many thanks to all the NEBAG members who helped set up and clean up over the three day weekend. We welcomed many old friends and also new breeders, several of whom were showing for the first time, and the show was run efficiently and with good humour by the team of Stewards. Nick Harrington-Smith judged with Barbara Hetherington apprenticing. Entries were over 100 with several disappointed late entries with breeders from Lanark down to Newark and a welcome increase in the Suri numbers.

The Young Handlers entry was enthusiastically contested and expertly judged by Barbara to the amusement of the large crowd. An excellent commentary on the judging and all things alpaca was provided tirelessly for most of the day by Paul Rippon and Robin Sandys-Clarke.

The full results are available on the BAS website in the Members Section with the Huacaya Supreme Champion going to a worthy winner in Chestnut Farm Lord of Sherwood and Reserve Champion to Fallowfield Grand Flowerdale Gallica. The new silver cup for Best Suri went to Newland Tajo. A film crew was present throughout the day filming for a new BBC series to be screened in the Autumn – details to follow when confirmed.
