BAS National Show and AGM

The National Show was held at the International Centre at Telford last weekend with more than 360 alpacas in competition. The new location was excellent – easy to reach by motorway and superb facilities. NEBAG members were very much involved in the organization with Barbara Hetherington and Melanie Douglas on the Committee, and Paul Vaclik designed and ran the website and also gave one of the seminars. John and Juliet Miller ran the Fibre Zone and Paul Rippon assisted with the commentary ringside. Apologies if I have omitted anyone!

NEBAG were represented by Barnacre, Beck Brow, Brook Willow, Fallowfield, Fowberry, Nero Black, Teesdale and Velvet Hall and the judging was done in tandem by Jenny Jackson from Australia and Nick Harrington-Smith.

26 rosettes were awarded to NEBAG members with three sashes, with top honour going to Stuart Ramsay and Jean McDonald of Velvet Hall who took the Huacaya Grey Female Championship with Bozedown Nunavut. Reserve Championships were awarded to Nero Black Shadow in the Black Male class and Fowberry Shogun in the Brown Male class. These were terrific results from a relatively small pool of animals of and confirms the high quality of alpacas available in the north. A full schedule of results is available on the BAS website.

As well as the Halter Show there were successes in the National Fleece Show with Barnacre taking a first and two seconds and Fowberry taking a first and a third. In the Fibre Zone Nero Black won a second and a third for their yarn and won the Hat Competition with Barnacre coming third.
